The stimulator effectively imitates a number of backwing insects. Tied in sizes 12-16 in tans and olives it can be an excellent caddis imitation. Tied in sizes 6-16 in yellows, orange, olive and gray bodies it is a great stonefly pattern. A tan version with rubber legs in the summer when the fish have seen enough of the standard hopper patterns.

Hobble

Originally a dry fly which I believe to have orginated from stateside. As flytire says it comes in many colours and represents stonefly, terrestrials and caddis.

Here in the UK& Ireland we do things differently Stick it on the bob in a big wave and watch the brownies go mad fo it (sometimes) while the fly also twists your cast into a curly wurly

Definitely a fly to have in the box, especially the yellow or green as 19 Fut says for Melvin

Mental looking fly. Too busy for me but they work, apparently

You can make these in any colour combo you want. Its more of a concept, rather than a specific pattern. (like a buzzer I guess?)
I think they represent adult stone fly.
Maybe a stupid question this, but do we have stone fly in the UK? Thsi fly is a US fly, right?

This is a great site that has a step by step and a bit of info on them

Stimulator has done well for me this year on stillwaters. Had 3 nice rainbows last night on them. They all took it when the fly was static.

Charlie Craven just added a tutorial for the rubber-legged version. (The golden stimulator is one of the fly tutorials he covers in his book.)
