Thumbs up tyed for conditions

when conditions dictate then the longer body compensates for colour in the water and larger rivers ie annan tummel and certain runs on the clyde especially lammington where 16/18 tend to catch as mr trout has seen them all i will submit som of bert sharps dressings and you will notcice discreet changes ie colour proportion and wing styles thanks very much for the positive comments

That may well be indeed true.............but.
A Style of fly is entirely different. The pattern has been set down by those that have gone before. To tie outwith that is a variant. The criteria is set down in book & speech.
Taking The Clyde Style as an example & from my site
Quote:
Flies on right show the typical Clyde Style. Hooks are light wired body length no more than half the shank, hackle of hen or upland game bird, 1-2 turns only. Wings are tied upright & set at a "jaunty wee angle" Lightness of construction is the keyword & hooking properties are good. Other than a touch or two of tinsel sometimes, a lack of embellishment & a general more sombre hue is it's marque.
Whilst not an exact description of "all" Clyde flies as certain patterns require slightly different dressings but again within "The Style" The Hen Blackie being a good example off outwith with it's pent wings.

Again I agree.......The bodies should be shorter. They look like normal 'North Country' flies to me!!!

yes i know they should be shorter but as a clyde style fisher for well into my second decade these are my own developements as i said these flies are for higer coloured water as the tying season kicks off i will be posting many clyde style dressings from old masters to the young and i am sure when you see some of the flies tied by the 12 yr olds i am sure you will be impressed

Oh no I haven't, but they look very nice to me.
I am fishing the Clyde this weekend, and if you can send me some, I will try them for you, and let you have the results.
