Default Untanned Squirrel

Does anyone know of a supplier of quality untanned grey and pine squirrel skins? All the ones I've seen over the past couple of years are tanned.

Try Chris Eastwood at Lathkill. He used to be a shooter and is supplying his own brand of squirrel dubbing. He may be able to point you in the right direction.

OOOooo, groan.

Maharg.. because squirrel hides are so thin that when they're tanned the treatment makes them disintegrate when hot acid dyeing. You can dye them at cooler temperatures over a longer period but some shades really require higher temperatures for the dye to take properly and fix correctly.

I'd much rather get some untanned hides than have to invest in a range of cold dyes.

Cheers ffwm, I'll give him a call.

Your best bet would be Clint Eastwood, although there would not be much left of it if he used the 45!

I am sure a shooter or two from the forum could help you out, all they need to do is blast a couple of greys, skin, then freeze them a.s.a.p. and then post to you.

It is a pity that I had to hang up the gun 18 years ago, otherwise I would have done the business for you. There will be many good skins going to waste as well, that really is a shame.

Sam

Cheers Sam. Yep, what I really need is a nice little break down single barrel 410 like my uncle used to have. A 12 bore is a bit over kill I reckon. I want a skin not a net.

I need to get my gun out again.
