Default Wets for tomorrow

Off to Lintrathen again tomorrow and although blobs and cormorants are doing well, my top dropper is never shy of a traditional :wink
Being having alot of success on traditionals patterns up there lately and I am fed up having to buy wets as i cant tie them worth a ****
So i had a play on the vice tonight and came up with a couple of things that resemble wets that have being doing well lately for me, i know they are not the best but i will persevere and see if i can take a fish on them tomorrow.
Wets will be a focus for me over the winter as i must get better so to speak as i hate scabby flies.
Whats your thoughts ???? As always and coments and criticism welcome

Look fine to me, only 2 points, a wee bit thought to the finish ie the head
Bit of loose material showing & a wee bitty lumpy.
Hackles are a tad long but overall.......Well done

Nowt much wrong with those two bigtroot.Only thing I can think of is to add a turn or two of softer hen hackle at the heed.

I don't agree that the hackles are too long for wets used on your top dropper. Those flies will catch fish and the small matter of the untidy heads is purely down to what standard you want to achieve. The fish will not be awarding marks for neatness and I don't think you intend to sell them on.

Your flies are good to go.

p.s. I fully agree with WJ. I'm not into the modern way of using cock hackles on standard wet patterns.

Thanks for the advice,
In the top fly i added a brown soft hackle as done on a kate but the photo does not show it to clearly.
I made that hackle slightly bigger than the hackle on the body- is this the correct thinking??
I know the heads are not to tidy but these are just the rough drafts
Cheers,
Baz.

If you do not set your self high standards then there is no way of ever improving. If you just want flies to catch fish then just buy cheap imports why bother tying.
The poster is asking for comments on his flies which I freely gave no more no less. I take nothing back in what I said. Take it for what it is good advice.

Hi Mate

I Like them

Re- hackles personally dont see a problem ,i tie a Big "Kate" size 10 B175, tail GPT 3/4" long much longer hackle than shown here less turns however its turned out to be a killer Browns, Rainbows point top dropper doesnt seem to matter

So id fish it...................let them be the judge

I was just having a look at your website. That's some length of hackle on that Blue Zulu on the front page.
