hi lads

new to tying and would like to ask what is the best varnish to used to finish the fly.

Only if thinned significantly. Gloss Coat is very good - and thin.

i will third that ,but be prepared to thin it ,i use acetone which does a great job ,the reason for the need to thin it i think is ,,the constant opening and shutting of the bottle eventually lets air get to the varnish thus causing it to thicken,so acetone is handy to have alongside your sally Hansen's hard as nails for thinning purposes.

Asda, Sainsbury's etc all carry S/H varnish as well, but acetone in small quantities comes from the chemists. DON'T buy "Nail varnish remover" as it has oils in it that cloud the varnish & stop it from hardening correctly.
