I have never been one to stick to any rules when using flies, I would fish any of these any where on the cast, yes some will fish better in certain positions on certain days and on certain lines but dont be afraid of breaking the norm and trying flies in positions you wouldn't normally try, you might be surprised  Cheers Gerry
