Zapata,

I think that you will find that the price Lakeland are showing was the 2008 price - before Whiting increased their prices for 2009.

There is no need for retailers to sell the Whiting 100 packs at a cheap price because there is a demand for them.

The cheapest I am aware of is £11.40p from Fishingclass:

http://fishingclass.co.uk/materials.aspx

Please remember that this is a VERY expensive method of buying saddle hackles - there is just enough feathers to tie 100 flies in each pack - hence the name of the product. You also only get hackles for mainly one size of hook in each pack.

A half saddle or cape at £28.00 will give you enough hackles for many more flies and you also get hackles for more hook sizes.

Kind regards

Foxons of North Wales make up there own packs which are great hackles and a lot cheaper than the pukka Whiting packs.

They are certainly priced attractively - I wonder how many hackles you actually get in a pack?

Kind regards

Zapata,

Remember that a saddle will only give you feathers for a small number of hook sizes.

The Whiting 100 packs only give you feathers for size 16, or size 18, or size 14 - not a mixture.

A cape (or half cape) will give you feathers for all sizes of hooks between size 8 to 24.
