Default Mono as tying thread

I plan to tie up some clouser minnows and crazy charlie type lures and looking at the great SBS on here they are tied using mono as tying thread.

I have loads of mono, in all strengths/thicknesses so im not about to go out and buy some danvilles mono or similar, ill just put some on a bobbin myself.

the only question really is what strength/thickness is the best to use. I guess if i aim for an 8/0,70 den then it will be about 1-2lb.

Could anyone enlighten me?

Cheers

Chris

I use 2lb mono for clousers but only because it was all I had!
Rewound it onto a sewing machine bobbin from a 1000yd spool.
Don't know if there is a "right" answer to your question; the 2lb seems to work OK.

Default Nylon Thread

Enrico Puglisi does a couple of different thickensses of nylon specifcally for slatwater flies. I use the thicker one, I'm not sure of its BS but it is considerably stronger for its diameter than standard 2lb mono.
Lureflash also do an "invisible tying thread" which is clear nylon.
If your going to use fishing line, look at some of the low diameter stuff used by pole anglers for making rigs. It is very low diameter and very strong.
Personally I use a 210 denier white thread from Danvilles which goes clear when varnished.

Cheers
