Default Most effective Snatcher patterns.

I am looking to extend the range of effective Snatcher patterns in my box. I have found, and it may just be me, that the simpler variants seem to be the most effective. I have had little success with Snatcher-fied classics such as the Kate McClaren, Peter Ross, Doobry, Bibio etc.

My Snatcher success seems to come more readily to very basic variants. My most effective by a long shot is tied thus:-

Sz12 curved light wire hook.
Black thread
Body - Black Claret Seals Fur
Rib - Fine silver wire
Hackle - Furnace cock died dark Claret (Stripped on the leading edge)

I have tried this pattern with cheeks of biot and JC, but the cheekless version seems to have the edge. I do one with a twisted red holo tinsel rib also, and that seems pretty good.

So, what are your most effective Snatchers?

I was afraid someone might ask that. I'll have a go with the camera over the next day or so.

Photos are not my forte, but I've given it my best shot (If you'll excuse the pun).

The photo makes the fly (especially the hackle) look a lot lighter than it does to the naked eye. Version photographed is with the twisted red holo tinsel rib, but the shot isn't picking up the glint that it gives. There must be something that I am doing wrong with the lighting.

That's it, Gander. Less is 'more'! Spot on.

Thanks. Your tip on stripping the leading edge of the hackle makes all the difference.
