Default Cased Caddis

I was wondering do many people hook fish using the cases caddis?I ask this as it is usually very large and heavy (size 6-8) and one wonders would your average river Trout or Grayling go for it?Or is it just used as an anchor to bring down the other flies?
Regards Morgan

I use a peeping caddis with a big shot for the head on a size ten long shank hook and rate as one of my most successful nymphs, and can get down to depths that others can't

cased caddis, pearly shrimp and a hares nymph are the mainstay of my river box.
