Default Best ressie dry fly hooks??

Hi all,

After some opinions and advice on the best hooks for reservoir dry flys. I've recently had problems with hooks straightening. Used B400's and they dont seem very strong at all. I'm looking to tie hoppers and 'bits'.

Thanks in advance.

The very best hooks to stop straightening problems are the Drennan Super Specialist hooks that you can get from coarse fishing shops. They are expensive because they are sold in piddling little boxes of 25 but there is no stronger hook that won't make your fly sink. If you can get hold of the old Richard Walker Carp hooks, they are also very strong and take some right hammer before they begin to straighten out. Another excellent old hook design was the Mustad 7780C. These won't straighten but the points sometimes break off...

Default Fuling Mill "All Purpose Medium" for me

I used to use the FM lightweight hooks for dries, however I found the weight difference between these and the lightweights to be minimal but the mediums are a lot stronger. They have a slightly longer shank too so you have plenty of room to tie a good body , hackle and wing without crowding either the eye or the bend.

Cheers
