What size hooks? PTNs are well-suited to smaller sizes (below 14/16).

He he, av you bin getting stressed ian out with it ian ???

Best bit iwhen you get to the end and it snaps

Tye them in shorter on the 10 mate.......... you'll reach the thorax with a long fiber

If you find your still struggling... then tye a fibre to half of the hook shank, tye off and catch another fibre in and finish to where you want...............

Hi Ian,

I can do this on b175 size 10 and 12.
Its a good way of avoiding some of the bulk in the body. I can be hard to cover the thread that you use to lash down the tail. You can use a bright thread and make this a hot spot. I don't always tie in the thorax cover with the same but of pt, it can be hard to get the pt to lie straight as it transitions from turns around the hook shank.

I know this is obvious, but use the longest fibres you can.

Keep trying, but don be a slave to the techniques of others. Do what works for you!

Do you fancy posting some of your ptns so we can see what you've been up to?

A

A useful tip is to trim the white stalky-bits of quill which are often left on the end of the stripped pt fibres. Once neatly squared-off twist in the usual way to make the rope, then use a decent pair of hackle pliers to grasp the very ends of the feather fibres.

I have fingers like bananas but one bunch of about 6 fibres can easily do a size 10 tail & body this way.
