Hey Savage,
You like a lot of palmering I see. Try stripping the fibres from the leading edge of the palmering hackle and minimise your turns to 4/5 on a #10 and 3/4 on a #12. Your catch rate should markedly improve.
Not slagging, just constructive criticism.

Good looking snatcher, but totally agree with Stan, a little too much on the hackle mate, but apart from that very fishy!!

Stan,
Do you find that using hen as opposed to cock hackle makes any difference to the effectiveness of the Snatcher?

Gander
I have tried every hackle possible on my snatchers over the last 15 years and in my opinion a metz #2 saddle hackle is best for the job as they are a lot softer than most cock hackles and the profile when wound is perfect for the job, but that is just based on my experiments. With regards to ST's fiery brown snatcher I know he has had excellent results from it tied as per his picture so at the end of the day there are no real set rules, if it aint broke dont fix it.

I prefer genetic hen, stripped on one side. I use nothing else for the simple reason they 'kick' better and catch more fish.

I disagree, I dont think using Hen hackles is a guarantee to catching more fish, I have been using snatchers a lot longer than some and have found genetic hen hackles are to fragile and come away from the body very easily with both the teeth and hook removal, yes they may be a fraction more mobile but when campared I have noticed no difference in catch rate when up against the saddle hackle which is also far more durable and will still look as good after 20+ fish as it did after the first. I had been experimenting with snatchers for 10 years before I did my magazine article in TF in Feb 2004 and the feed back I have had from both other tyers and customers who have purchased them have showed that the Metz #2 cock saddle hackle is more than up for the job in both barb length and mobility as it is softer more of a Heny-Cock type feather compared to it's rivals, Hebert Miner, Keogh, Whiting etc. Hebert Miner and Keough are to long with very stiff stems whereas Whiting barbs are far to stiff and again have very hard stems. Again these are only my findings and are not gospel, if you are using a stiffer, longer hackle and you are catching fish then stick with it, after all confidence is a great "fish catcher".
Cheers
Gerry

you need to cut back on the palmering ok, dressing is too heavy and looks all bunched up,
not so many turns on the hackles 3 on the body 1 on the head
hope this helps
