Default Moser power silk

Hi chaps i have become hooked on moser power silk for most if not all of my tying due to the sheer strength and lack of bulk which it produces but due to the current economic climate ie exchange rates it is becoming very expensive so i am looking for a cheap supplier or an alternative if anyone can help cheers again para7

Para7,

It is one of the strongest.

However, try the following as great threads. They all will split, just as the powersilk will and are, for thir size pretty strong. They are not as 'slippy' as powersilk, but that can be an advantage

Sheer 14/0 (Gordon Griffifths) - try Phil at Fly Tying Boutique / Spider Plus for these.

Also bennechi 12/0 is a nice thread. Pat at Flytec stocks these.

My vote would be for the Sheer.

Cheers,
Dave.

I'll second the 14/0 sheer - very good stuff!

I have never understood the fascination for Power Silk. I have found this material to be less than useless for "normal" tying. It is far too slippy, does not bind materials too well, will "takethe hand off you" if you pull too tight & quite simply I can not get on with it. Now having said that some apparently do but I think there are far better out there.
Bennechi 12/0 was mentioned & this has been my mainstay thread for some time now. Simply quite an excellent thread especially the 12/0 which I seem to use most of the time & with some 8/0 UNI I feel I can cover most tying situations. Never used Sheer so can not comment on that one
