Default Deer hair

What is the best deerhair for,

Sedgehogs,
Mini muddlers,

Would roe do, or is there something better?
Also looking for a good supplier of the hair in some dyed colours.

Thanks, Graham.

I find that Coastal Deer Hair is good for everything, it is mainly taken from Male animals and is a lot stronger.

I use Roe for both. Artifly has an excellent range of colours.

I bought some Roe the other day and I was tying a Kate Mclaren with a deer hair head and it wouldn't spin so I had to revert to a 20+ year old patch of deeer hair that I had which was presumably not Roe.

That sounds a bit strange. I've been spinning roe deer hair for thirty years and never had a problem with any of it. By the way, roe deer hair is better than any other kind, in my pretty wide experience. I occasionally use muntjac for Half-Hogs, but only if it comes to hand first. Its brighter and more colourful but is a ****** to spin because its not hollow.

I use roe deer 99% of the time, the darker section along the ridge of the back being the best part on the skin. I also use sika on a few selected patterns.

The Roe I bought looked exactly like the bit of deer hair I already had but it just didn't spin, something I think is pretty easy to do?
