Or perhaps the point of the original post was why bother with the fancy fly when the simple to tie fly can be equally effective?

Are the TMC 2487/2488 stronger (while remaining fine wire for that skinny profile)?

Yes, I have used the 2487 and that is a really nice slim hook and well strong enough for me. I find Kamasans easier to source as my local stocks them, and to be perfectly honest I now use a b110 for just about anything that I want on a curved hook. Does the job well, just straighten out the off-set in the vice before tying.
