Hi gmeister,

Keeping it simple, a dunkeld or an orange throat hackled alexander always works well for me, but you can tie all manner of fancy deerhair one's depending on the size of the fry.

Richard Walker's Hanningfield Lure was specifically designed for perch. It's a tandem hooked affair, both hooks L/S #8 joined with 12lb mono.

Bodies: DF white wool, ribbed oval silver
Tail: hot orange cock, wound and clipped
Rear Throat Hackle: hot orange cock
Front Throat Hackle: short, bright blue
Wing: White goat hair, topped speckled turkey or mottled peacock wing

Default Muddled Perch

This is an old thread but it's the same time of year and maybe of interest again...

You could do worse than try the Muddled Perch:

Click the image to open in full size.

Hook: #4 ESP T6 Raptor or Owner SSW Straight Eye
Thread: Olive 3/0 Uni-Thread or white Dyneema
Wing: Olive over white craft fur (plus 3 strands pearl Mylar)
Beard: Orange Saltwater Yak Hair
Collar: Olive deer hair (tied sparsely)
Head: Olive deer hair
Eyes: 3-D Molded Eyes, Gold
Markings: Black, olive, brown and orange marker pens (Prismacolor)

Step-by-step text and photos are at FFR >>

Happy tying and fishing,

Raif
