Default Olive Ultralace Emerger

Just mucking about given all my boxes are overflowing with the regulars.

I like the ribbing effect and the translucency, just hope it floats

Very nice looking pattern. Where do you get your ultralace? I'm having problems sourcing this material.

One of those patterns that has that 'just right' look about it. Very nice.

Yeah, I like's it too!

Would love to have a few of them in, size 16, 18, for the river and streams!

If it floats - It'll take a-lot of fish!

Nicely tied!

Regards

Mostyn

nice profile, should pierce the surface film very well

try picking out the thorax dubbing ALOT this will probably take some of the force of impact and help it stick in the film. just a suggestion

Johnny here is my thinking.
All flies are skinny, really skinny even a Sedge (turn it upside down and you will see how thin the body is.)
If it does not float I will add more CDC. I try and keep my flies as slim as possible. Your idea of a picked out thorax is good for floatability but not for its profile. If you look at the dries I post on here, I sometimes do an underside shot. I don’t do it for the sake of it, it’s to illustrate while there might be lots going on up top (above the water) what sits in or on the water is minimal.
So you suggestion is great for floatability but does not float my boat in terms of what I am trying to achieve which is a wee skinny insect coming out of the water. So why did I add the thorax of rabbit? Two reasons, the first is simple to hide the join between the Ultralace and the CDC, the second is to create a small area of disturbance where the fly is struggling through the meniscus and its legs start to appear.
So that’s my thinking. I will try it your way and report back; maybe the fish will prefer it with a bigger thorax and more "disturbance"?
Mark

No
The loop wing is an entirley different stage of the emergance.
Duns as they hatch spread their wings to dry out. The loop wing is more of a cripple.
I have cdc dubbing and am still not sure about it. I might try it, good call.
The cdc loop is an option and another fly all together. I have not had the courage to expose that yet!
The muller is an exceptional fly in small sizes for summer Grayling BTW.

Anything else?

im all out let me know how you get on with the dubbing, sounds interesting.

i have not tied a muller yet, and im not so convinced about bending the hook!!!!

do you have any greyish coastal deer hair? i made a nice emerger pattern the other day that i will try get a pic up of. it has quite a lot of deer hair, put it is neatly packed upright much how you are wanting the wing to look, but perhaps a little long for this purpose. possibly a pain in the butt for small patterns
