I was looking recently for a gateleg table to save me space and I 'phoned a sec hand furniture place and the guy just happened to be a fly tyer and he suggested getting a Bureau which can be picked up cheaply. You have the drawers down below ( Oooh Matron) and the upper section with the fold down flap with the pigeon holes behind it ...Just a thought!!!

Unfortuanatly space is restricted regarding a bureau, so i was thinking along the lines of something that would sit on my existing table surface.

But isn't the table going to get cluttered and messy same as your desk and whatever you put on the table has to be moved elsewhere when you want to use the table ( which I presume you do use)?

I used a table in the living room and that's what happened so as I havent found a burea I'm thinking of using a walk in cupboard in the living room and fitting a shelf at the right height and using that . I've got sockets in it for lighting etc so that might do me .

It's a dedicated table that also houses my pc at one end.
I have seen fly tying stations ,by oasis, but they seem pricey for what they are though!

Spinfeathers, Ive just been in the same predicament, my tying bench after serving me for a good time finally gave up the ghost a couple of week ago and has now been laid to rest at the old furniture crematorium (Bonfire), so was searching high and low for a replacement, Ive settled for one of these off E Bay.

It fits in with the rooms original decor, and is just what I need, not to expensive at £145 (buy it now) + £27 delivery (from Clwyd) you could maybe arange to pick it up if you live fairly nearby.

Deatails of item are as follows:

Redfox's dresser base or similar can be had from numerous pine furniture supply houses, I know as I ran one for several years. The disadvantage with them is that if, like me you use a clamp type vice there isn't enough overhang to clamp most vices onto them. So you either need to have one modified by the makers or use a separate sheet of timber ontop to counteract this. Unless you want to use a base type vice, which I find abhorrent as your freedom of movement is restricted.

There are numerous "fly tying stations" available in the U.S. one just has to google them, but I would find them challenging to use as there isn't enough room on them to keep the materials ontop to tie more than one pattern at a time. Okay perhaps for an evening in front of the t.v. whilst tying with it sat on ones lap, but NOT for doing any serious work with.

I've made a purpose built set up, with a vinyl floor underneath that allows easy material/hook pick up. 2 Anglepoise lamps controlled by dimmer switches with loads of storage facilites all around & ontop of it. A swivel gas lift castored tying (operators) chair. White walls surrounding it with numerous other devices etc built in or nearby.
