That's a bit of a misleading statement Arkle. Hayabusa actually manufacture their hooks in Japan - they are not sourced as you suggest. Fulling Mill are the British/European distributor of Hayabusa hooks and rather than sell them as Hayabusa, they choose to re-package them and call them Scorpion.

Kamasan hooks are different - I believe they are manufactured by Daiichi.

In my opinion, Hayabusas are marginally better quality than Kamasans but there's not much in it. The other cheaper hooks however, are best avoided. false economy in my view.

Thanks troutbum. Have just placed an order with veniards for a selection of fulling mill hooks I'm starting to prefer them to kamasans.

The hooks from mikes tackle shop ARE Scorpian i.e. Fulling Mill = Hayabusa = Rutland = Veniard = ? others as well no doubt.

Peter Veniard, M.D. of Veniard's is on the board of Fulling Mill. Mr. Unwin M.D. of Fulling Mill is on the board of Veniard's.

Fulling Mill are the main importers of the above hooks & they are also the main importers of Tiemco.

The 'Pirahna Ultra Sharp' hooks that he sells for £2.25/100 are not Hayabusa/Scorpion. They are nothing like the same quality and he's selling them for significantly less than Fulling Mill's trade price.

Fulling Mill import the hooks and then supply Rutland Fishing, Veniards etc as well as using several million of them a year for their own fly production. Stuart at Rutland Fishing used to buy them direct from Hayabusa and this is why he sells them as Hayabusa rather than Scorpion. This arrangement was stopped last year and he now has to buy them from Fulling Mill.

I didn't really want to get into a huge debate about this but the original post was seeking advice on hooks and you have suggested that all hooks are basically the same - sold by different people under different names and at different prices. This is not the case and some of the cheaper ones are **** - poorly finished and made out of poor quality metal.

I have had boxes of 1000 hooks that have had a Fulling Mill 31530 label over the top of a Hyabusa 751 label.
