Default Tying Half hogs

I will be tying a couple of dozen half hogs over the weekend ,i was just wondering how many coats of varnish to apply to the quill body version ?,i was thinking 2 coats as i don't want them sinking like buzzers and at the same time i want them to be robust enough to last for a few fish .

Bear, old buddy,

I smear some superglue over the thread immediately before winding the quill. This secures it from underneath. Then a coat over the tied quill. Let it dry, then a coat of varnish. That does it for me.

The wing will tend to offset the weight of the body.
