I love my Anvil scissors, obtained from Toby (WCB), superb bit of kit.

The Pirate.

Avoid the ones with carbide inserts as they can shatter quite easily, as I know to my cost. The carbide coated ones are perhaps not as durable, edgewise but they should last you a good while if you don't mistreat them.

If you have a local surgical instrument supplier, ask them to show you some Iris scissors. Most of them are now either made in India/Pakistan & are not that expensive but reasonable quality. A lot of the top German/Swiss names have been taken over by those from the Asian continents, who effectively buy the good name to sell their lower grade stuff. Most of the big name (Dr.S. etc) advertisers have their stock made over there.

There are a few (very) English makers, which are very good. Check to see that they are comfortable in the hand i.e. they fit around your fingers & can be manipulated easily. You should be able to get them for around your asking price, without much hassle.

Tiemco are worth a look too as I have had a pair for a year now and they are almost as sharp as the first day. Cost around 20 Euro (£14).

Post Scissors

Hi UF
I've purchased some Dr Slicks Micro tip and Prism and I am pleased with these, the Micro tip cut right at the tip for that delicate cutting where other scissors iv'e had don't. Priced around a tenner not to bad As per yourself I now use my other ones for general purpose and wire cutting.
Got mine from lakeland.

I've got a pair of dr slick all purposes that are so well used the gold finish is coming off the handles where my thumb goes. still very sharp. They certainly aren't the best quality scissors you can get, but they are good value for the price.

I heard a while back that French Emroidery scissors were the best but who markets them etc I never did find out.

Arkle's take on comfort is a major consideration if you are a frequent tyer.

Default Rubis

Rubis seem the best for delicate work.

There was a thread about them a while ago.

Rubis Scissors.

This also impressed me (the scissors in use):
