Hi, if your fishing from the boat and during this heat wave, Chew can become very tough { as many other venues will } , don't rule out the di-7 washing line { especially in front of the lodge}. On day's suffering from bright, hot sunshine, try the di-7 with a black cormorant booby on the point, a red ribbed diawl bach { i carn't spell for toffee } approx. 3ft from the booby, then a standard cormorant 3ft from the diawl bach, then another diawl bach again 3 ft away from the cormorant, then 4ft of leader to your fly line. Cast out and imediatly begin a slow figure of 8 retrieve, the takes to this method usually come half way back when the line gains depth and tension, if your a regular at Chew then you'll already know the importance of hanging the flies at the end of the retrieve{ some days it's the difference between catching a good bag or blanking} Mark your di 7 at 10ft from your loop and again at 15 ft, when you see the markers hang the flies for as long as you possibly can then draw up real slow, use a good strong leader as Chew trout don't half hit them hard on the hang although sometimes it can just be a little tap on the end so it's then your turn to hit them hard !! hope this helps, i can go on a bit but for you or any other Chew fishers fishing through hot times this method should not be ignored. regards Fred.
