Talking Spiders

Hi Guys~

I fished my local fishery tonight, bright sun, slight ripple........ put size 14 spider i tied up using "rook" lovely soft grey/black feather, put it on my top dropper ............. Boy oh boy it was the only fly that worked tonight i kept changing my point and second droppers.........no interest but this little spider hooked 5 rainbows, and three browns ..........i landed two blues and a rainbow along with one wee browine the others came off.

This was the first time ive fished spiders.............im impressed floating line long leader, top dropper arm wrenching pulls i simply let it drift and a very, very, slow fig 8 dam good fun, i cant believe they turned up there noses at all the other flys and went for this tiny sparse Rook spider another great confidance boost

This was the first to fall to the spider a very pretty blue

You may be new to the fine art of spider tying and fishing , I'm not sure.

If you are new, welcome !

Quite simply, the best wet flies in the world.

If u need any more suggestions, try a black and peacock spider with red thread ( thread has to be fairly subtle so the peacock herl can be ribbed fairly closely ) .

In a word.......lethal.

If you like the above pattern, then try it with a tag of flat pearl tinsel, a black dyed peacock body & natural black hackle. Dress it on a b175 or similar !

Sorry, but no chance of doing an s.b.s. for you - three busy ! BUT, if you want to see some s.b.s's either do a search on this forum, or www.ukflydressing.com (?, I've bookmarked it so name doesn't come up, try google). There are dozens of websites that are concerned with spider dressings, also have a look at Hans's site www.danica.com and search spider - you could be there all night or longer !

Thanks i was very pleased with the photo would you believe taken on my sony k800i 3mp camera phone set on macro

Feather's came from a rook mate

Oh where from natures bounty i shoot air rifles, full bore deer rifles and big bore rifles and shotguns so its not a real problem to be honest i was after a crow as i wanted to tie a crow and silver

Oh the feathers are from the rooks back ! mostly soft white at base going to grey only black near the tip but very soft fluffy texture thats why i used them.

Default Black Quill Spider

Try this one out.

Nice and simple with all the right ingredients.

Have any of you used a spider called the Brown Owl, Body of Orange thread, hackle of brown owl and a head of peacock herl. I saw Malcolm Greenhalgh tie it t a fiar earlier this year, looked very nice.

We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
