Default Slow sinking or slightly buoyant buzzers?

I've been messing about trying to tie bug-bond buzzers incorporating an exaggerated thorax of booby foam to get different sink rates. I don't know if what I've got will catch fish, they're a bit peculiar looking, but look forward to giving them a try. I'm not trying to make a suspended buzzer, although the one that does float actually doesn't look bad from below.

Here's a video of a standard buzzer being dropped into water, followed by three of the new ones.

What do you think, an idea worth trying out, or just a midwinter crackpot notion?

An exploded buzzer!

Better done with fine wire hook and fluffy stuff so as to create the same slow-sink effect but without the bulk?

Defo worth a try.

It looked very natural when it was sinking.

Encouraging that you like them, chaps, gives me a bit more confidence about giving them a swim!

They're tied on an Orvis 1639 #14 emerger hook, so fairly fine wire. The thorax is just a cylinder of booby foam tied down behind the head, stretched tight and tied down at the back. The floating one has a whole cylinder, the slow sinkers are split in half lengthways. I think the difficult bit is judging how much to trim the foam for the desired sink rate. Then the quill body goes on, then a bit of marker pen on the top and bottom, coat of bug bond, coat of SH.

Might be possible to get the same effect with a soft dressing that traps air, though.

Like the idea Steve and the vid is a great demo. Will be interesting to hear how they go.

Try buzzers on light wire hooks and as you say dress with more scruffy materials to trap air/add drag. Also fish them on co-pol. This will slow the decent.

But as I say like the idea.

Cheers,
Mark

Working on something similar but with lighter wire hooks and dubbed bodies.
Looking to achieve a very slow sinking buzzer with a foam thorax
I want to fish these on a lighter outfit and top couple of feet of water.
I think Observation catches more fish than anything else.(keep up the good work i like your thinking.

Cheers Craig
