Default CDC and biot up close

I thought I would post an "actual pixels" crop of a photo of a simple #18 biot-bodied fly with a hackle of split-thread, wound CDC. The field of view here is about 4mm. You can see why the CDC is so good at trapping air and hence floating and providing soft presentation. All those tiny spikes...(although not the same as some illustrations on various web discussions would have you believe).

Very good use of a macro lens, it is interesting how much more detail the camera can pick up as apposed to the human eye. Makes me wonder what the fish see

Given they can pick out nymphs from all the other **** that tumbles down a river, I'd say quite a lot.

Did you stack that, or just long expose a high F stop?

Great image

Awe mate that would be telling... As Scratch would say, it was "smoke and mirrors".

Shot at f5.6...plus a little magic.

Thanks for the comments - I just thought it interesting to show the structure of the CDC. The original frame(s) were shot at about 1.7x magnification - the rest is just the resolving power of 16.7MP.

Nice shot! Looking at the DOF you've got, I presume it's not a reverse lens et up?
