Kamasan B980 or 982 (even heavier wire) size 6

............and it fits in the international gauge.

size 8, B175,s good hook gape for hooking a fish due to thickness of blob material.

Hi Michaela

I asked the very same question on a different forum a while back and got some good advice back. The bulk of people suggested Hayabusa FLY 751 in a Size 6. If you bend the eye down in the vice before tying it will comply with international rules too. I bought mine from Rutlandfishing.com and can't fault them - and they were very good value. I used to use Kamasan B175s but found them to be a bit narrow in the gape and the fritz used to obscure the hook point.

Hope this helps

I generally use the partridge BMN hooks on sizes 10s and 12s but was given a blob last year by Iain Barr (the man himself , not his fly range) and it was tied on a standard size 12 with the dressing completely shrouding the hook . Don't know who it was tied by but just thought it might be an interesting point to note.
