Default spider patterns

Hi, i have only started to tie my own flies, i would like to know what spider patters work best for you and the recipe to tie them lol thanks Pol

Partidge and orange is a spider i would not be without,you might want to look on the sbs section or failing that have a look on Davie mcphail site,very easy to tie.

partridge & orange and black & peacock is the only spider patterns you'll ever need. they go mad for them in rivers and stillwaters

I don't think you will get a consise answer on this. It is a case of matching the hetch of the water you intend to fish.

As far as patterns go, have you searched the forum? The book 'a guide to tying north country flies' is not a bad place to start.

Easy to tie. Not so easy to tie well

Snipe and Purple
Partridge and Orange
Waterhen Bloa
Greenwell's Spider

To which you could add

Partridge and Yellow
Partridge and Red
Black and Peacock
Stewarts Spider.


As already said, Mike Harding's book on North Country Spiders is worth looking at.
