Default Using quill

When tying in quill, did i read somewhere ( Jeremy Lucas? ) , that the dark band should face the eye of the hook for best effect , or should the dark band face the rear ?

Or does it make no odds ?

Tks ....

I take it you mean peacock quill here?

If so I dont think it really makes any difference but maybe keep the thinner side which may be the lighter side to the rear I think that would make it wrap and overlap nicer.

I've had a look at a few Quill fly pics on here and see them tied both ways and both look good to me.

On a smaller fly - maybe sizes 16 - 20, I think it helps but for larger flies it doesn't really matter as you won't notice the effect as there are so many wraps.
