Default All that glitters

The other day I was searching for a bit of inspiration and something flashy to pep up a wee pattern I've been working on. Trawling through a large box of packets of flash this, mirror that and crystal the other (and not one bit more inspired I have to add), it struck me what a pile of faddy shoite I've bought over the years. In fact it was frightening to consider the value of the never used materials that I've accumulated!
Is everyone else in the same boat?

Must be the same for every tier and not just with flash materials.
I've got stuff from years ago which I haven't used or only used once, then I've recently bought stuff and not yet used it. Good intentions and inspiration.

I've only been tying for just over six months and have an accumulation of cr@p that I wonder if i'll ever use. Then again I also wonder how long it would take me to use the stuff I do like and use, and yet I still buy more materials, practically every week.....

Yip, we are all sailing that boat! Hanging on to materials just in case that fly comes along that needs a wee bit of this and a wee bit of that...and we've got it!

I'm not guilty (much) of buying stuff and not using it. I did aquire a load of stuff from a mate who could no longer tie and he gave me lots of items that hadn't been out their packets. I think when you buy material and don't even open it, that's when it's getting out of hand!

Welcome to my world! Far too many materials to tie far too many flies, most of which will never ever see the water. But I am sure that every one of them is a sure fire killer when I tie it.
It's the "you never know when it might come in useful" approach that keeps a lot retailers going.
It's called fly fishing and its why we love it!
So don't knock it - just sit back and enjoy the addiction.

I have eleven years of accumulated materials a lot of which have never been used or seen the light of day. I see something in a tackle shop that takes my fancy and I buy it. I often wonder if flashy materials, in particular, are aimed at catching the angler and not fish?
