Default Golden pheasant full body skin ?

Might be a stupid question but i was given a golden pheasent full body skin with wings and have only been fly tying for a few months. I have tied Buzzers, Baby doll's, Cats whiskers, Pheasant Tail Nymph, and some other Lures. But what can i use the golden pheasant for i know i will need other material's but i am in the process of buying diffrent material's. Can i use it for hackle or would i need a cape for this. sorry if this is a silly question but im a bit lost

Thanks Brett

Scratch has a nice wet fly he ties I think it is called a 'cripple' which needs it ,the octopus style of fly require it also, but it is probably most often used as a skirt on Irish shrimps . PJ

Hi there, it costs you nothing to hang onto your skin, so do that.

You can use the yellow crest feathers for a whole range of tailed Scottish style wets, and the orange and black barred tippets you can use for tails as well.

The breast feathers are excellent for salmon flies, as are also the afore mentioned crest and tippets.

You're talking a good few rounds in the pub to buy one, so whether or not you have the use for it now, just keep hold.

The red & yellow feathers on the main body skin, are most often used in salmon/sea-trout shrimp style patterns. The body skins are not that expensive & well worth keeping. The head, i.e. tippets & crests are virtually essential for many wet fly patterns as well as most salmon flies. The tail sections are only really used on salmon fly wings or individual fibres are torn from the stem to make very realistic nymph legs.

Can you direct me to this really cheap boozer

Sorry I had to as the skins ae pretty cheap.

Most skins that are for sale have no heads as that is where most of the money is at for the tippets and crests.
