Default Best Place For Feathers

Hi all, could someone please give me some direction on where to purchase Partridge Fearthers so i can have a go at tying the Partridge and Orange, also after snipe feathers for the Snipe and Purple .

I am new to tying so dont know any good material suppliers.

Any help appreciated.

Regards Mick

Depending on which part of N. Yorks, it might be possible that you're near enough to Otley to pay a visit to Wharfedale Angling Classics.
Not only an excellent choice of materials, but also a very helpful and knowledgable owner.
Plenty of mail order suppliers who could be recommended, but especially for a beginner to fly tying, a personal visit to a good shop can pay dividends.

Another vote for Wharfedale - funnily enough, I actually did buy a bag of partridge feathers and a pair of snipe wings from them a few months back and have been very happy with the quality of them. As IanD said, very helpful and knowledgeable - if you're anywhere near them, they'd be well worth a visit.

I would also suggest Cookshill Fly Tying, Steve Cooper prepares all the partridges himself and won't sell **** to anyone.

Default Feathers

I have used both of the above with no problems.

If you are tying Spiders, make sure your Partridge hackles come from around the neck area where they are nice and small. It may be worth buying a skin as it's much easier to find a hackle of the size you want from a skin than from a packet.

Steve did have some Snipe skins recently, give him a ring to see if there are any left.

Steve at Cookshill's supplies a lot of feathers and skins to the trade as well, let him know what type/style of fly you want it/them for and you won't be let down.
