Potty's Palmer as tied by David Pottinger, uses orange baby wool and works wonders for the big wild browns. David was kind enough to give me a sample of the actual shade when I was being pedantic.

Aye,I too can vouch for Potty's Palmer, the orange one,I struggled to catch the big fella's out in Sanday until a chance meeting with Davy at the loch side,Bea Loch in fact. His saying was,"that you need a big fly to catch a big fish" and I have never looked back. Long shank Shuggies,IPN's etc, they work a treat. Best so far, 8lbs 4ozs, stonker, on a long shank Dunkeld,
Cheers Ken

I usually fish them on a 2 fly cast. My most successful set up is a size 8 scarlet blob on the top dropper at all times and a Pottys Palmer or a black IPN on the point of a 15 foot leader,6 feet to the top dropper, and never fish anything less than 10lb monofilament, forget about fluoro, been broken on the take too often with it. Hope this helps where you fish,it has certainly accounted for many a 6lb plus fish in Orkney and Shetland.

Thanks, Ken, wanted to try them when in Orkney in April. Donīt know if I get the chance to get to Sanday but perhaps Skaill or Clumly are worth trying?
I come over from Belgium every year but didnīt make it to Sanday so far.
Thanks for helping. Best, Bobby

The same applies for Clumly and especially Skaill. If you are fishing Skaill, one of the most popular flies with the lads who fish it a lot and that does well in April /May is a size 10 gold beaded pheasant tail with a sunburst marabou tail
Cheers Ken
