Is that a budget of 50 squids to start building flies, or a budget of 50 squids for the vice?

Good scissors are nice and two pairs nicer still - Good light nearly vital - Couple or three bobbin holders...

And then there's the consumables - fur, feathers, wool, hooks, lead/copper wire, tinsel.

There is something to be said for a starter kit.

the pedestal base is stable in the snowbee, you can got a version with a table clamp, i wanted the base so it doesnt ruin the table edge

as for feature you must have.. it must hold a hook... thats it... i have a second vice which is as basic as can be it has a fixed head and a little thumbscrew to tighten the jaws i won it on ebay for 3 quid... it works just fine.. you can pay more for rotating heads and cam jaws but to be honest they are just fancyness, they may make tying easier but are by no means essential

Thanks for that info. I think I now have some idea of what I need.
