Default feathers and wings etc

Guys,
I've just been given a pair of jay's wings from a farmer friend of mine, what i need to know is, do i need to treat them with any type of cleaner, preservative etc prior to using them?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just make sure there is no fat or anything left where the wings attached to the birds body. Add some naphaline crystals to a plastic bag and put the wings in with them. Keep them dry. You could, if lucky (and understanding wife) nuke them for a minute in micro wave or freeze for 24 hours to kill of any mites/fleas.

Avoid ANY Naptha based chemicals, they are carcinogenic & fall out onto carpets etc where they can get ingedted by virtually any living thing there upon. Use a safe organic based pesticide & repellant spray of which there are loads on google.

Micro-wave 2x for 30secs (max) once each side. Freezing often just puts "bugs" into hibernation rather than killing them. Use a new clean zip top bag for storage after treatment.

Borax on the butts to stop any corruption, a pal sent me a mink tail and it arrived complete with Maggots, , you could just remove the blues and dump the rest, easker1
