I would be fishing this sort of fly or variants of it like the Octopus or Telephone
Also had good success with a Cock Robin last year around that time.

Sedges might be on the go.

as you would on any other lough, fish patterns to match what natural fly is emerging, late july is sedge time.

Only thing I can mention is that, that hook looks to long in the shank for a dabbler?

Good spot! it is a little longer but on this occasion on purpose as the Melvin trout seem to like them later in the evenings.
May be just me, but seem to, and gives me a confidence boost.
