Default Hackle for Klinkhamers

Hi,
I am thinking of tying some Klinkhamers does anyone know if there is one colour I can use for the Hackle on different flies or do I need to get different colours I have been looking at the Metz Cock Neck but to buy a few will be expensive. any advice would be appreciated.

Hi John,

It would depend on the colour of fly you are looking to tie.

I think a Grizzle, Blue Dun and Red Game cock cape would be able to cover a few klinky's. you could also use these for lots of other dry flies.

hope this helps
Martin

If I had to pick one I'd get a grizzle cape

I would go for a good quality plain grizzle saddle/neck to cover the size of flies you intend to tie. I find the natural grizzle works well and gives a nice 'suggestive' leggy look on most body colours.

To be honest if you only intend to tie a few flies you may be better going for either half capes or even the pre-selected packs like the Whiting 100's

Mick.

Thanks for the advice lads I think I will go for a top brand in Grizzle.
Thanks again,
John S.
