Default A few more wet flies I tied today

So, based on the materials and their colors i have in my inventory, i tied a few more different wet flies other than Trout Fins

First is the the Watson's Fancy. i think it came out pretty well. This is the same fly in the Fontinalis Fin thread, i just included it again here as I like how it looks.

Next is Golden Duke
Here there are a couple things not just right. The body is not correctly proportioned between black and gold. The wings are too small, i.e. not enough slips as well as being too long (almost as long as the tail. I have it on good authority that this is not ideal. I used turkey as i didnt have red duck.

Next one off the vise is Pellee Island
A little beauty, but maybe too many slips in the wings this time.

And finally, or maybe this one should have been first - Premier.
This is the one i'm most happy with.

Thanks for looking. Comments, criticisms and suggestions for improvement are most welcome.

Very neatly tied flies. I especially like the first one.

I agree with your own self-crit.

Other minor points: On some of them I might make the beard hackles a bit less bushy. The tippet tail on the first one - think you've moved the fibres a bit once removed from the feather as the black band doesn't line up. Also with tippets, there's a school of thought that says the black band in the middle should touch the body (and you maintain the right length of tail by selecting the right size of tippet feather). The hackle's a bit long on the Pellee Island - usually expected to extend to the hook point or barb, or maybe a bit longer, but not beyond the bend of the hook.

Of course, that's just what tradition says, and there's no harm in breaking from tradition. I'd suggest the key thing is to learn the control so you can break with tradition when you choose to.

The married wing is a cracker. Nice.

PS Just seen you're in Philadelphia - tradition might be different on your side of the pond!

I agree with all that Spheil has said.

The only thing I can add is spit! A lick of the fingers and a stroke of the fibres here and there can make the wings look much more polished for the photograph, the Watsons is a good example of this, a quick preen of the wing could have disguised those wayward fibres in the wing. You could of course use photoshop to get the same effect or so I've been told .

Very neatly tied though, the heads have a very nice shape

All pretty well done
Just the odd tweak here and there.
One thing I would point out though is the Watson's fancy must be a variant as there is no red floss or crest on yours.

I didn't see a crest mentioned in the pattern i followed. Enlighten me.
The lighting in the picture is poor, but there is definitely red floss in the Watsons: This is the same fly

I dont have access to the dressing at the moment but will take a look later.
I have never seen it with tippets though and the red floss is usually at the back.Quite often seals fur is used instead of floss but I dont know if that is original or not.
