Default whats what

Just started to tie my own flies poorly I might add, got a couple of books Vice and tools and recommended feathers and fluff but when you go to the shop god theres so many feathers and fur its mind blowing.
Anyway what should I have in my box of trixs that you cannot do with out I know it takes time to build up your reserves but im inpatient.
Also the mixed bags are they worth the money or are they full of the stuff you never use

thanx
Matt

Start with simple easy to tie flies such as Gold Ribbed Hares Ear and Pheasant Tail Nymph and maybe The Woolly B-gger. Once you can tie them well then move on. Find what materials you need and have a look on Davie McPhails videos for ideas or maybe buy a few flies just to get the idea of the techniques. I know it,s hard to not be impatient, but you really have to learn to walk before you can run when it comes to tying flies. I look at some of my early efforts and can,t believe how bad they were yet you can only get better by practicing and for Goodness sake don,t fork out for a kit. Some times you can find bargains at craft and pound shops. Just keep asking on here and you,ll get loads of help. You can spend little or lots-all depends on how much you want to get into fly tying. I shudder to think the money I,ve spent on my "passion"!

Hare's mask

Peacock herl
