Default Spiders on Jig hooks

I thought I'd try something different and tie some spider patterns on jig hooks. I prefer fishing spiders dead drift, pocket picking on the french leader on small streams and freestone rivers.

I thought the jig hooks would give me a better fly profile and look better with a bead. Perfect for dropping into likely holes.

What you think?

Spiders are traditionally fished high in the water, but that doesn't mean they are not effective fished deeper

Nice idea... In practice, not too sure. If anything I would fix the bead on the hook and tie a hackle in front of it so that the hackle pulses over the bead making that lovely tear drop shape.

Agreed. Although they are nicely tied, I would question what the bead and jig profile adds to the subtle movement of the spider style dressing. As FB rightly states, siders do fish down in the water column, but I would always strive to achieve this using heavier wire hooks and/or ballasted point fly on a team of three.
What Kieron has tied there, is basically a very nice set of hackled nymphs.
