Default pedestal vice????

going to be buying a vice in the next few weeks but am just wondering what I should buy. I like the look of te pedestal vices but is there any advantage of these vices

Yes. You don't annoy the wife by putting gouges in the dining room table.

As Bill says they save the dining table. Also you can position the vice a little further away from you & have tools or materials in front of you, the only drawback i find is you can't adjust the hight as much.

I like the pedestal vice you can take it anywere,like the previous post has said the stems of the vice i find are a bit small.

For years i used a vice with a G-clamp, but i recently bought a seperate pedestal base from Yorkshire Angling (which seems to fit most vices) and it's the best thing i've purchased in years.

Another shout for the pedestal. I'm an itinerant tyer in our house. I have to set up shop wherever I can sometimes - it might be the sodding bedrrom window ledge if I need a couple of replacement dries and the kids are having tea. I appreciate the flexibilty of the pedestal...and the fact that you can't come unstuck by a particularly deep tabletop surface, or one with a downstand etc etc....

Don't worry about stability as I once did. Even horsing down on deerhair won't cause it to tip over.
