Thumbs up hooks

I prefer to use Kamasan B175s for wets or nymphs and Fulling Mill All Purpose medium hooks for dries.

Default Kamasan Hooks

I agree, Kamasan are pretty much the best hook although I've started using Varivas hooks too. The Kamasan B175 is perfect for wet flies or larger Dries. The B175 is a heavier hook to the B170 so best to stick to B170's for dries. I found www.troutcatchers.co.uk sell both Kamasan & Varivas hooks, and they're really inexpensive too, I think the Kamasan hooks start from £4.99 for a pack of 100 hooks.

There is nothing within my limited fly tying ability that can not be addressed by a Kamasan of one pattern or another. I have recently bought some size 10 and 12 Fulling Mill Competition Heavyweights. They are certainly on a power, and do the same job as my B175s. I have also recently been using TMC2487s for buzzers in place of the Kamasan B100s, they are very good indeed. If I had to pick one favourite, at the minute it would be the TMC2487 size 12.

Kamasan and Hayabusa do make excelent hooks,
But i recently purchased size 12s heavyweight wet fly from Royd on ebay
These hooks arrived the next day from ordering, are well made and half the price,
He has a wide range, and i will be using him in the future.

kamasan B175 are superb hooks but i often find them a bit too short shanked.

The capt hamilton range of wet hooks from partridge are superb and slightly longer shank.

for dries B170 work fine though can be a wee bit heavy. If so i like the TMC 102Y range. I dont like dry fly hooks to be too light.

Have you tried putting one of those Royd hooks in a vice and giving it a twist?

I have and they bend out of shape under the lightest pressure I would strongly advise you to chuck them in the bin and buy some decent hooks such as Kamasan or Fulling Mill!

ROYD HOOKS ARE SHEITE!!!!!!!

My favorites are Partridge SLD Surehold Lightning Dry Barbless, which I use for all my dry and wet flies, they have a slight kink instead of a barb, and have never let me down, and are very fine. Try them...
