O'Reilly on here does a good deal on kamasans. He can get most types, is always helpfull and they usually come the next day if he isn't off fishing somewhere. Last time I bought some it was about £5 for a hundred including delivery.
I use either kamasan B175, B400, or specialist hooks such as grub or klinkenhammr hooks (which if you want to get some make sure you buy about two sizes smaller than you really want. My size 14 are bloody massive).

Ref your enquiry on hooks.
I'm always very wary of recommendations about suppliers of equipment and materials, the commercial cynic in me attributes it to 'friends and aquaintances', but if you're looking for some good fly tying hooks, good free advice, and some specialised products, I've been very impressed with Niche Products in Chelmsford Essex, - I don't know his name, but he's spent ages talking to me on the phone when I haven't bought anything, given good advice, with the result that I've gone back to him several times, - if you're tying your own flies you'll undoubtedly need some items from his catalogue cause they're not available anywhere else, and as for the fly flotant he sells in little tubes, its the best I've ever used. While I'm doing recommendations, I have nothing but the highest admiration for Peche Truite in France.
Cheers

Can you not see how unbelievably hypocritical this sounds.........
Somebody asks for some advice, they get some, you say how to be wary of advice, and then offer some yourself !!!!!!

Default hooks

I agree on the Royd issue...****. The B175 are a tried and tested hook...as good a heavy wire hook as you can get...well worth the extra pennies... though Hughie does a cracking deal... The other kamasan I really like but a bit difficult to get hold of is the B 220 A york bend...fairly fine wire but strong, very strong.. pricy but I think worth it....

Dom - the semantics here are important, as is a degree of interpretation and reading in context of any posting. Hypocrisy is a widely misused word, it is literally a show or an expression of feelings or beliefs that one does not actually hold or possess oneself - it is not a term applicable to my posting, nor is it what I was doing, or indeed, guilty of. I was merely expressing that 'caveat emptor' should apply in that some advocates for commercial concerns on the forum were blatant and transparent vested interest based. I offered my experience under those same caveats - it wasn't an exhortation to 'go buy'. Hope this clears it up, if you disagree, maybe we should continue it on a private thread.
cheers

Roger,If that Emptor bloke has applied for them and thinks that they are good hooks that will do for me Seriously though some people on this forum seem to want a punch up more than discuss matters fly fishing. Hold your nerve.
