I know. You look at his flies and get sucked in

I think they are very good for first attempts. First fly a bit straggly and wing a bit narrow
second one, wings split a bit and beard hackle a bit far back.
Third one nearly spot on. Wing a bit large for me as is the head.

The proportions are there or thereabouts but too many fibres in the tail for my liking.

Having pronounced judgement with all the confidence of a total incompetent when it comes to wings() - I'd fish 'em happily. They'll catch for sure.

Jeez Bill ,do you think I have any feelings . Agree the first is bad I had a right trial getting the width and lenght of the wing right and just about threw the bobbon out .Must concentrate a lot more on getting proportions and wings sorted ,man that macro shows everything up.I appreciate the advise Bill ,thank you .Great craic trying though.

I hear you la Jolla ,the man has a lot to answer for allways figured tying was a relaxing pastime until I took it up.So this is my latest attempt. Some little improvement I think and allthough not perfect as good as I can get it.

Must have missed this thread haha! the blame lies with me does it Corky, but what for? as that's a great little march brown youv'e tied there, just needs the wing sitting down a bit and maybe an extra fibre or so on the wing depth and its damn near perfect. I find part of the challenge is that when you do get it right try and remember exactly what it is that you did and immediately tie another fly exactly the same way. What I find is when I do the pinch and loop I pinch the wingslips really tight as a ducks a*^"e until the loop has tightened, keeping the slips as still as possible and also make sure that the base your'e tieing the wingslips onto is as smooth as possible, some dubbing can interfere with the slips as they are tied in, seals fur in particular can be a b*"^h as it can get in between the fibres and spoil the wing but there are ways of getting around it but I'm still learning. Well done, keep at it

Not a bad wing from you either Hugh, a bit on the long side but if your'e managing to perform the winging loop without any upset your'e more than half way there, getting size and proportion etc correct will only follow.

Good attempts Corky and Jolla. As Mark says, keep the the pinch on the wing very tight until tied in. Corky, the split wing on the second fly can be easily zipped up again. Light touch with finger or finger and thumb.
Should shut Bill up.
