Default Mounting Flies

Thought this may be of interest to some;

Basically an Ikea deep box frame called 'Ribba', about £7, this one is 10" by 10" buy they do loads of sizes, and they're about 1.5" deep so plenty big enough for any fly.

I mounted these with wire wrapped around the eye and hook, twisted to lock it in place, then passed through small holes in the backplate and glued with a glue gun. The advantage is that it's discrete, and they can be moved afterwards to position them perfectly. The downside is it's fiddly, but, the backplate is thick enough to be drilled and a wooden/plastic post glued in. The names are just printed out on high quality paper, cut out, and glued with pritt stick or craft mount spray.

Total cost including flies, about £10, £20 including buying the glue gun!

Darren,a friend of mines makes framed flies and what he does is tie the fly with a staple incorporated under the dressing on the side that is hidden.It seems to work very well.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I know Paul Little frames some extraordinary flies in fantastic frames, just awesome to be honest, and he mounts them on a perspex rod.

IKEA, pain in the bum to shop around, but, dead cheap and perfect for framing.

The method, as used by Paul Little, is detailed in one of these books (I have them both but they're still in boxes following our house move and pending complettion of the 'Fly Tying Room' - so I don't have access to them!)

Paul Little is an amazing guy, I was lucky enough to have dinner with him at an APGAI 'do' at Caer Beris a few years ago. His attention to detail, preparation of materials etc awe inspiring.

Nice. Does anyone know a convenient way to have the fly sitting "off the page" so-to-speak? Is it typical for the hook to be fully visible or embedded in a post or such that would set the fly off the backboard/page?
