Antron is a multi fibred product, think of a fibre optic cable. It can be reduced easily by simply seperating the bundle of fibres
Chennile is more a woven product over a central core. While it comes in differing diameters it is pretty much fixed.

What colour are you needing? I am guessing white for breathers.
PM me your address and I will send a few bits off to you.

Antron is terrible stuff to dub for a beginner. It has a habit of springing from the thread with abandon!
Chenille will tend to look bulky on a PTN, though larger long-shank versions (like Bob Church's patterns from the early 1980's) sometimes use fluro orange or lime green.
Why not try natural rabbit fur, hare body patch fur or peacock herl for PTN thorax material instead?

Antron is a multi-filament fibre made bu DuPont. It is totally different to chenille.

Asuming you're using it for the thorax, chenille is bulkier but would give a similar type of effect, however if it's for any other part of the fly, chenille would not work.

Maharg, Antron is a carpet fibre.

Terry, when Antron leaves the factory it can do so in different forms. Originally as a multi-fil, but also as choped fibres i.e. dubbing, & twisted like a wool.

To bore you all to death Antron was a very popular (and still is) substitute in carpet industry for wool. Wool is a very good material for making the pile on carpets. Problem is cheap wool is not. So some sell a wool pile cpt for 15.99 sq m, the real deal is 80.00 +. To overcome this problem an amount of man made fibre is added = 80/20, typically nylon. Antron was suggested as the man made answer because it is springy/resilient. Bounces back quickly after being crushed by size 12s. In fact it does. However, being man made it tends to attract dirt and dust and needs a treatment such as Scotchgaurd to combat this. Scotchguard wears off quickly and only works in Scotland!

I've never tried Antron as a dub but not suprised to read above that it jumps off the thread. Well it would I suppose .

Sorry chaps, I did say it was going to be dull .

Chris.
