Is that some sort of apoxy repair putty rolled in grit?
I take it it's a peeping caddis.

I can't help thinking this will not hook very well?
too much material behind the bend of the hook and too little hook gape. I'd not be confident with this one.

Regards

Make sure you duck when you cast - if that fly smacked into the back of your head it would knock you out

Hi guys,
With the lead fly I must get very small flies (14-18) into a deep and very quickly the river (especially summer). Yes you're right Budgie, you must be careful to injury!!! BUT: Some Slovak rivers without of flies you can not go fishing(tungsten flies are very light). Composition: Epoxy + sand. Weight 2.2 to 8.8 g. This type of flies you can be used for competitions too.

Cheers

Peter

I am assuming that is purely sacrificial and not really meant to hook up? Looks a beast of a fly for getting down there! thankfully I have not had to resort to anything wuite that big before, think I would do myself some harm.

Epoxy is not a particularly heavy material. Why not tungsten beads on a long shank, wide gape hook then coated with epoxy and sand? That wold avoid the issue of too much material behind the bend and crowding of the hook gape. Or tungsten putty coated with sand and set with Bug Bond?

Hi guys,
you did not understand me. stevekale, the body is lead coated epoxy + sand. Look here: Siman Fly-Fishing Shop, Czech Nymph Products, Czech Nymph Masterclass. Weighted Caddis Case
I not catch fish on the this fly. I used the fly only as a weighted fly when the tungsten is small weight ! With the lead fly I must get very small flies (14-18) into a deep and very quickly the river (especially summer). See you:

river Váh near city Ružomberok
depth cca 2,5m
You think that you get to the bottom of tungsten fly? On the competitions you can use to 4.0 mm. No more! Its FIPS Mouche regulations.

Cheers

Hi guys,

This nymph is an anchor fly. The Slovakian fly fishers use this type of flies in fast flowing rivers.
Here is an old topic about their style and how to use this type of nymphs

Winter Grayling

cheers

Lucian
