Default Hog inspired

I'm still messing with the new dohkiu barbless and got inspired by Mark's hog thread.
As this was more of a lure hook I kept the deer hair longer and gave it a rabbit tail and squirrel front wing.
Thanks for looking
Mike

Not sure about the tail, I'd prefer a bit more colour there for a target but I love the style and the rest of it, that would raise a few broonies!

it's different as it is a lure i dont think you should of used deer hair for the wing. you are looking for mobility in a lure, rabbit or marabou would have been a better choice.

The whole thing about hog design is that only the deer hair tips are used, not the whole skin.

You have been Grumpius maximised.

Well are not muddlers a type of lure?
And if used on an inter line would it not act similar to a booby.
Having experience fishing this type of fly for sea trout I think it will take a few bows
Comments taken on board though.

yes some muddlers are lures but they usually have marabou or a material with movement. when tying a fly you have to think of the function of it.
you have used a stiff material for the wing.rabbit or marabou is going to have a nice fluttering action and appeal to the fish more.

Its got Rabbit for the tail and soft Squirrel for front wing, both mobile materials.
Great sight here for muddlers, hogs and all flies.
Muddlers

you have tyed it on a streamer hook mate in a lure style not as a muddler.
yes you rabbit for the tail but you have stiff deer hair then squirrel for the wing which is gonna give you hardly any movement. the lure muddlers caithness flies has tied have marabou in them.
