Default Couple more dabblers

Gradually getting better, but I guess if I keep going and tie about 100 more, it will click. Mind you, it's funClick the image to open in full size. Click the image to open in full size.

By George, I think you've got it Hugh!

A little less tail and a little more cloak perhaps (says this veteran of two-dozen Dabblers!). Perhaps a bit more vigour with the velcro to reduce the 'cockiness' of the palmer and tease out the dubbing. The cloak will tie on more easily if the hackle is swept back.

Keep having fun!

Not bad Hugh, the head is much reduced but youv'e skimped a bit on the BM. To get a decent cloaked effect you need a good amount, if your'e tying a size 10 you should be tearing off a good three quarters of an inch (sorry havn't gone metric yet) of BM from the feather then fold it in half and catch it in on the top of the hook then ease it around the shank as you wind the thread around with it so that you get a fairly even spread around the shank, then wrap it with tight turns down to the hook eye and trim off the waste with the sharpest pair of scissors youv'e got flush to the bed of tying thread. Keep at it, it will come.....eventually.

You're really getting the hang of that...looking very good.
I've never tried tying a dabbler before, they look very difficult to do, so well done for getting to this stage.

Think I read on here that until you've tied 100 flies of one pattern, then you can't class yourself as proficient at it, I think I would go along with that for some (a lot of) patterns.
