Default Snowshoe hares feet

Any one used snowshoe hares feet for dry flies and got any recipes?

I just acquired 3 feet olive, dune and natural.

Found a few on the web so what have you got please.

Davie McPhail uses Snowshoe on a couple of his flies

Frans Betters Usual and the Bob Wyatt Snow Shoe Hare Emerger are two good ones, both are on youTube.

For a blue winged olive emerger, Paul Proctor uses a curved hook much like Bob Wyatt's here. He ties the rear half the body with peasant tail, leaving some fibres for a tail, just like a pheasant tail nymph (but without copper wire). He ties the snowshoe hare hair like Bob Wyatt here, and the front half of the body is olive dubbing.

I hope that's clear. It's so much harder without a photo!

I haven't used it myself because I have no snowshoe hare hair, but I always find Paul Proctor's advice and flies spot on so I feel confident that this fly will be excellent.

Beleive that Engle does a chapter on the stuff in his book 'Tying small flies' and refers to the chapter as poor man's CDC!

Worth a read.

Indeed he does ... Chapter 18.

It's not such an easy material to tie as CDC, particularly in sizes 20 and below but it does have the great advantage of being far more durable, visible and easier to dry than CDC.

It's not the easiest stuff to tie with - a fairly precise mix of guard hair and underfur is require to achieve the correct balance of floatability without creating excessive bulk and a lot of people abandon the pattern after getting this wrong and finding it doesn't fish properly.
Perseverance will definitely be rewarded though - the pattern below is one of the best I've ever used for tricky fish feeding on olive duns. When the hatch begins to tail off and the fish become picky and your usual patterns begin to get refused, then this one will redress the balance good and proper:

Trust me, it's a good 'un!

Happy Christmas,
